Although the one dollar coin legislation failed to pass during the 104th Congress, several favorable developments occurred. Six Senators and 124 Representatives supported dollar coin legislation. The inventory of Susan B�s dropped by approximately 60 million coins during 1996. About 237 million coins were on hand at the beginning of 1996. By the end of 1996 it was estimated that the governments inventory was at 178 million - a draw down rate of about 5 million per month. If this trend continues, the government will run out of Susan B. Anthony coins within 3 years!
