Vending Scams
In spite of Hanna's attempts along with the efforts of numerous reputable organizations across the country, vending scams are still alive and well. "Record Numbers" of vending machine scams were also reported by the Wall Street Journal. This time the victims are said to be "a growing number of retirees and laid-off workers seeking new careers" who have been taken by con artists. However, the scam artists had better watch out!! The August Kiplinger Washington Letter reported that the Federal Trade Commission will soon be given new power to combat telemarketing abuses. Congress is looking to authorize civil penalties and full restitution to victims of investment swindlers and fly-by-night companies.
